In this latest edition of what accidently became my ‘Stalking Indiana Jones’ series, I reach a new level, actually finding where Indy lives!

In the final Indiana Jones film ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ we see Indy is seeing out his twilight years alone in a New York apartment. The external shots of the apartment were were actually filmed in Glasgow back in 2021. Thanks to a very good location scout and a sprinkling of CGI many parts of Glasgow city easily doubled for New York in the 1960s. The city was used for several scenes in the film, including the impressive Apollo 11 parade that was filmed along St Vincent Street.

Indy’s apartment is located on Parnie Street in the Trongate area of Glasgow. It’s a part of the city that was also used in early 2022 for filming of the sadly never to be released ‘Batgirl’ film.

Sallah. “I miss the desert. I miss the sea. And I miss waking up every morning wondering what wonderful adventure the new day will bring us.”

Indy. “This is not an adventure, Sallah. Those days have come and gone.”

Sallah. “Perhaps. Perhaps not.”

I’ve visited Glasgow several times in the last few years and love how it’s now used as a film location so frequently. Most recently parts of Edgar Wright’s 2025 ‘The Running Man’ and another Marvel Spider-Man film ‘Brand New Day’ – due for release later in 2026 – have both been filmed in the city. We returned in summer 2025 and finding Indy’s flat was on our itinerary. So, early one Sunday morning in July we went to pay him a visit.

The location appears a few times early on in the film as Indy leaves his apartment and then later as Phoebe Waller Bridge’s and John Rhys Davies’ characters leave the reunited Indy and Marion alone at the end. Despite the modern cars and and shop fronts it’s easy to identify the actual door used for the entrance to the apartment – same colour, same windows! There’s a nearly identical door further along the street but matching the location by the proximity to the road junction it’s clearly number 53 Parnie Street that’s the door to Indy’s flat. We like to think we were respectful of the residents and didn’t hang around too long other than to take a few pictures.

Indy. “How did you end up like this?”

Helena. “What do you mean? Resourceful? Daring? Beautiful? Self-sufficient?”

The amount time and effort that went into transforming a street corner in Glasgow into 1960s New York is really impressive. There are some great behind the scenes pictures here from when they were filming. The whole process must cause a lot of disruption for business owners and residents who get inconvenienced by the filming. Unsurprisingly there is more filming for an unnamed production coming at the end of March 2026 – there are keen eyes out there that keep watch on tell-tale road closure announcements by Glasgow City Council https://secretglasgow.com/glasgow-film-filming-locations-street-closures-march/.

Helena. “Wait. Now you believe the Dial has magical power?”

Indy. “I don’t believe in magic, Wombat. But a few times in my life, I’ve seen things. Things I can’t explain. And I’ve come to believe it’s not so much what you believe. It’s how hard you believe it.”

Bonus location.

In advance of our return visit to Glasgow my husband Andy made a point of rewatching the sections of ‘Dial of Destiny’ filmed in the city, taking screenshots and storing them on his phone. These are always extremely useful for matching scenes like the ones above.

There was one shot that we hadn’t specifically planned to match up. It’s from the scene where Indy is bundled into the back of a truck in an alleyway. It’s not a particularly glamorous moment in the movie, we didn’t know exactly where it was filmed and we didn’t think our friends would appreciate us trawling up and down every side street in Glasgow to find it. However, as we wandered between pubs one evening, my husband spotted a rather distinct and familiar looking building. We’d stumbled across the right street quite by chance! When a location presents itself you have to take pictures, so our very understanding friends waited while we enjoyed taking in the sights of a grungy (and lets say. …fragrant) back alley in the city! (it’s West George Lane if you’re interested).
