Today I should have been flying back from adventures in Japan and South Korea. Obviously with the world beginning to lock down we cancelled our plans. Instead we managed a short break in Ireland – timing it remarkably well so that we left the morning they closed the pubs!

In 2017 my now husband I did a little road trip starting from Cork to the Ring of Kerry. The main purpose of the holiday was to visit Skellig Michael which I wrote about in three parts starting here. The not so easy to get to Star Wars filming location used in the latest trilogy of films.

This time we only stayed in Cork and Killarney but it brought back great memories of our first trip. I did keep an eye out for Star Wars/Skellig tie in merchandise and wasn’t disappointed, although the Irish Pub Shop in Killarney hadn’t much new stuff – I was expecting considerably more porgs! Did get a rather nice signed print though.

Got some more of the very nice chocolate that’s produced by the Skelligs Chocolate company from the the English Market in Cork, and also picked up a couple of bars of this local chocolate based purely on the very cute packaging.

Best souvenir of the trip has to be this stand up cut out. We’ve accessorised it of course with hermit Luke and a tiny porg, perfect!

Skellig diorama

There’s an art gallery in Killarney exhibiting stunning photographs by Peter Cox  https://www.petercox.ie/ He’s currently running a Kickerstarter campaign to fund a new book featuring Skellig Michael. I’m looking forward to having ‘The Skelligs: Islands on the Edge of the World’ book as another aide-memoire of my visit to the amazing location.

Random item of the trip; Cabbage & Bacon Tayto’s- they were a euro, I took a risk…they were actually really tasty!

Tayto - tasted really good surprisingly
